Assist with holiday programs & short-term accommodation
Holidays can be expensive for any traveler, but travel costs can quickly increase if you require specialized support services or equipment. If you are an NDIS participant or are eligible for NDIS funding, you may be able to get help with Complete Choice short-term travel or respite this holiday season. If your travel is intended to support the goals of your NDIS plan, some expenses may be covered by your NDIS funds.

What expenses can the NDIS cover during these holidays?
The NDIS can assist with reasonable and necessary holiday expenses. Food and drink, transportation, and lodging expenses that any other traveller would incur may not be covered by your NDIS funding. However, there are a few exceptions where the NDIS can help with your Complete Choice plans. These are some examples:
Your Support Worker: If you require the services of a support worker while traveling, the NDIS will cover your time as usual. However, you should be aware that long support periods can be expensive, and the NDIS cannot cover their lodging or travel expenses.
Equipment: Any equipment needed to help with daily activities can be claimed through your NDIS plan. This will differ from participant to participant, depending on your specific circumstances and needs. Prior to your vacation, you should discuss this with your plan manager.
Transportation: Special transportation or higher transportation fees to accommodate your disability can be claimed in your plan. However, if you do not require specialized transportation, the NDIS will not cover these costs.
Accessibility: Any costs incurred for accessibility, such as more expensive lodging or modes of transportation, may be able to be claimed in your plan.
Short Term Accommodation (STA), which includes respite, is defined as funding for support and housing for a short period of time away from your usual home.
