Innovative Community Participation in Adelaide
When the usual approach doesn't fit, we design one that does.
Innovative Community Participation is a separate NDIS registration group for approaches that don't fit the standard model — individually designed, often technology-supported or peer-led ways of building connection and skills.
It exists for people for whom conventional community participation hasn't worked. Complete Choice is registered for it.
When the usual approach doesn’t fit
Social anxiety severe enough that a group isn’t a realistic start · sensory needs that rule out busy public settings · a very specific interest with no local group · a history of group programs going badly, and no appetite for another · living at the edge of the service area with limited local options. None of these mean participation isn’t for you. They mean the standard shape of it isn’t.
What an innovative approach can look like
Tell us what hasn’t worked before and we’ll design something around it — then write down what we’re trying and why.
How it’s funded
Specified separately in a plan from standard community participation. If it’s the right fit and isn’t funded, the route is evidence at your next review — usually a record of what’s been tried and why it hasn’t worked. A coordinator can build that. Support Coordination

Different from regular participation how?
Standard participation supports you to join things that exist. Innovative participation designs something around you when that doesn't work.
Who is it for?
People for whom the conventional approach hasn't worked — anxiety, sensory needs, a niche interest, or bad experiences with groups.
Does my plan need to specify it?
Yes — funded separately.
Can I have both?
Yes, and plenty of people do.
