Innovative Community Participation is a separate National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) registration group for approaches that don't fit the standard model — individually designed, often technology-supported or peer-led ways of building connection and skills. Complete Choice is registered to provide it across Adelaide, within 100km of the CBD.
It exists for people for whom conventional community participation hasn't worked.

Then innovative community participation may suit you. It’s for when the standard shape of community participation doesn’t work: social anxiety that makes a group unrealistic, sensory needs that rule out busy public places, a very specific interest with no local group, past group programs gone badly, or living at the edge of the service area with few local options.
None of these mean participation isn’t for you. They mean the standard shape of it isn’t.
What can an innovative approach look like?
It looks different for each person, because the NDIS describes this support as tailored to the individual. We start with what you want to do, and what has got in the way before. Tell us what hasn’t worked before and we’ll design something around it — then write down what we’re trying and why.
How is it funded?
How it’s funded depends on your plan and the current NDIS pricing rules, which changed on 24 September 2026. Before anything starts, we’ll check with you — and your plan manager, if you have one — exactly how it can be funded. A coordinator can help with that too. Support Coordination
How does it start?
It starts with a phone call to our office. You tell us what you need, or what you're not sure about. Then we look at your plan and funding, meet you, and agree in writing what your support looks like. Support begins after that, with review dates built in so it keeps fitting your life.

What is innovative community participation?

How is innovative community participation different from community participation?
Standard community participation supports you to join things that already exist, like a class, a club or a group. Innovative community participation designs something around you when that hasn't worked, because of anxiety, sensory needs, a niche interest or bad experiences with groups. Tell us what hasn't worked before, and we'll design something around it and write down what we're trying and why.
Who can get innovative community participation?
It's for people with extraordinary support needs, where the conventional approach to community participation hasn't worked. That might be social anxiety severe enough that a group isn't a realistic start, sensory needs that rule out busy places, a very specific interest with no local group, or a history of group programs going badly. Whether you can be funded for it depends on your plan.

Ask us before you assume either way. The NDIS pricing rules changed on 24 September 2026, and how this support can be funded depends on your plan and those rules. Before anything starts, we check with you, and your plan manager if you have one, exactly how it can be funded. A support coordinator can help you with that too.
Can I have both community participation and innovative community participation?
Yes, and plenty of people do. Community participation can support you to join an existing group you're comfortable with, while innovative community participation builds something designed around you where the usual approach hasn't worked. Before anything starts, we check with you, and your plan manager if you have one, how each support can be funded under your plan.
